Mentor Program Launches

August 8, 2008 by Angela Parker

Aspiring Virtual Assistants can attend a low-cost 12-week mentoring program, presented by RemoteProfessionals.com, to get a head-start on turning their current skills into business success in a home office setting.

The program, which begins on August 27th, will be held for one hour every Wednesday for 12 weeks, and will cover information on topics ranging from selecting equipment and services to how to market yourself and gain your first clients.

“There are hurdles when you move from a traditional/corporate work environment into a home-based model,” says Angela Parker, “but self-management isn’t the largest one. Running your business like a business, often is. This mentoring program was designed to answer the questions that will save a beginner countless hours and will reduce the number of mistakes new business owners often make and have to correct.”

The classes will be presented by individuals who have been in the business of providing full-time services online and by professionals in complementary fields who specialize in helping small business owners realize financial success while minimizing the personal costs associated with running a home business/home office.

Class sessions will include:

  • Orientation by Jeri Winkler of The Secret Assistant
  • Importance of Contracts by Laura Armbruster of Valuable Connections
  • Financial Planning by Kimberley Thomas-Catanzaro of Bookkeeping and Secretarial Services, LLC
  • Niche Selection by Angela Allen Parker of WickedWriter.com
  • Branding by Anna Baron of The Virtual Link
  • Web Presence by Jodi Diehl of Sunfrog Services, Inc.
  • Scheduling and Organizing Your Time by Clare Evans of ClareEvans.co.uk
  • Data Security and Client Confidentiality by Andrea Cannavina of LegalTypist.com
  • Tax/Corporate Structure by George Montgomery of BusinessAndTaxPlanning.com
  • Social Networking by Mike Price of MLBroadcast.com
  • Marketing Yourself Online by Jill Chongva of VADiva.com
  • Selling and Subcontracting by Tiffanie Lyons of Lyons Sales Institute, LLC

“More people are considering the home office option as gas prices rise and the need to be closer to home increases,” said co-founder Jodi Diehl, “We developed the mentor program to help people get started quicker and help them to enjoy more immediate success as virtual assistants, freelancers and remote service providers. We have assembled a group of specialists to give our mentoring program attendees the information we needed (but didn’t know we needed) when we initially launched our own businesses.”

Both Parker and Diehl agree that learning how to run a successful business online “the hard way” isn’t the most efficient method. The mentoring program will offer beginners the wisdom of “old hands” with the opportunity to enjoy small classes and open discussion and Q&A sessions with presenters and fellow attendees.
